We turned up and was told afternoon tea was between hours despite the ticket saying anytime after hours. I have to say it was grim, there could be so much more in the ballroom to generate interest. In one of the cabinets there are 2 stag lamps which in their day would have been for candles.

However an electric flex has been attached to the outside of the lamp and looks awful. Surely the electric cable should have been fed through the lamp? Afternoon tea was poor although tasted lovely. There were 4 scones although we could only eat two as the portion of cream and jam was minuscule and not even enough for 1 scone. The strawberry tarts were lovely but again very small. Anne-May A. Yes, you could go finding Cairns. There are quite a few. The Prince Albert memorial is actually a pyramid, with excellent views.

All the cairns are good, the other in particular for views is the Purchase Cairn the first, upon the purchase of the estate. This has a great view down the valley. The Prince Albert cairn is best approached from the West, longer but easier walk. The Eastern approach is short but steeper. FranciscoVegas Schwetzingen, Germany 48 contributions.

In February an arrangement was made that Prince Albert would acquire the remaining part of the lease on Balmoral, together with its furniture and staff — although he had not seen the property beforehand.

Major work began almost immediately at the estate to create new cottages and offices, and to improve the overall look of the grounds. The neighbouring estate of Birkhall was bought at the same time, and the lease on Abergeldie Castle secured as well.
