Why isnt braxton miller playing

He battled his way onto the roster and secured a spot on the depth chart behind DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller. Miller produced yards and two touchdowns in two seasons of work. Injuries were a contributing factor into the lack of production as well as struggling to transition into an NFL receiver. So now that Miller is available, will he get another chance to make a roster? My guess is yes. He is a unique athlete with an intriguing skill set.

He showed signs of brilliance while playing at Ohio State and just needs to work more on transitioning to the pros.

I think Braxton could be a legit third or fourth receiver if he can stay healthy. Miller, a third-round pick, transitioned from star quarterback at Ohio State to wide receiver in the NFL. He was released by the Texans during final cuts last week.

Although he has not produced much at the NFL level, he will now get a chance to earn a role with the Eagles. Miller simply never panned out after the Texans used a third-round pick to gamble on the former Ohio State quarterback, with the intention of converting him to a receiver. Entering the campaign, the hope was that Miller would separate himself as a quality slot receiver, but Bruce Ellington was much more impressive in that capacity this preseason.

While his time is now over in Houston, Miller still boasts elite athleticism and stands to have decent odds of being claimed off waivers by another team.

Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said the team is "working through some things" in response to a question about Miller being released. O'Brien addressed several topics after a slew of roster cuts came down Friday and made it sound like Miller could be back in the fold.

But, we're still working through some things, Braxton's an improved player, no doubt about it and we'll see what happens. Miller started at wide receiver in place of the injured Will Fuller hamstring in Saturday's preseason loss to the Rams. Fuller came up lame late in the practice week and was scratched from the game. Miller was targeted a team-high five times, catching three for 26 yards, including a seven-yard touchdown. He was particularly impressive on the touchdown catch, grabbing a ball in a crowd.

Usually, we don't design routes where guys run to the same spot and jump in the air. But Braxton came down with it and it was a really nice play. He leads the team with nine catches and 94 yards during the preseason. Miller secured three of five targets for 26 yards and a touchdown in the Texans ' preseason loss to the Rams on Saturday. Miller hauled in a seven-yard touchdown pass from Brandon Weeden just before halftime, adding to his successful preseason. The year-old has totaled nine catches for 94 yards and Saturday's score over three exhibitions as he battles for a roster spot on the latter half of the receiver depth chart.

The third-round pick appears to be trending in the right direction in that regard, although another productive effort in next Thursday's preseason finale versus the Cowboys certainly wouldn't hurt. Miller caught three passes for 40 yards in Saturday's preseason win over the 49ers. Miller's had an encouraging preseason, both in training camp and the first preseason game, but the view on him is less sanguine following Saturday's effort. He led the team with eight targets, but caught less than half and had a drop early.

Bruce Ellington, on the other hand, made a strong case for the No. Miller ran exclusively out of the shotgun in high school and that system was part of the reason he was rated as the best high school football player in Ohio and a consensus top recruit in the country.

College programs saw elite playmaking ability and an absolute gem running the football. So from a timing standpoint, Ohio State made sense for Braxton. Pryor was coming back for his senior year, and would presumably be one of the best quarterbacks in the country on one of the best teams in the country.

Braxton could sit on the sidelines a year and learn behind Pryor, then become the starter for the season. Then tat-gate hit. Tat-gate happened. Pryor and Tressel were both gone. Luke Fickell was appointed as the interim coach and now the quarterback battle in fall camp would take place between noted-elite senior in Joe Bauserman … and true freshman Braxton Miller.

But the offense, oh boy the offense. They finished 81st in the country in scoring. But, Braxton played exceptionally if you cross off September. He led the team in rushing despite not starting every game, he almost singlehandedly willed the Buckeyes to a win in Ann Arbor before dropping the game late. He showed how much of an athlete he was and racked up almost all-purpose yards. After the season, Urban Meyer was hired. Meyer brought a spread offense that was similar to the one he ran in high school.

As a result, Braxton exploded and became one of the most electric quarterbacks in college football. Braxton totaled over total yards and 28 touchdowns during the season. We all know what happened in corresponding years.

In the Buckeyes had an unbeaten regular season again, and then were upset in the Big Ten Championship by Michigan State and then losing in the Orange Bowl to Clemson where Miller hurt his shoulder.
