Why is slingbox so slow

Plug the Slingbox directly into the cable modem, or into a switch plugged into the cable modem. If your cable modem is far from where your TV and cable receiver are located, you may want to move the cable modem or the Slingbox so they are closer or use a longer Ethernet cable.

Change the settings on your Slingbox account via the Slingbox website. You need to replace your original IP address with your new, second public-facing IP address. Update your Slingbox Sling Player for desktop viewing if you do not have the current update installed. You can update the Sling Player from your account.

Updates to the Sling Player and the Slingbox mobile apps often include quality and streaming improvements. The upload speed of the Internet connection in your home may be insufficient to host your Slingbox. Contact your Internet service provider ISP to see what options you have for upgrading your Internet service. To use a Slingbox, your home Internet requires a minimum upload speed of Kbps. The faster the upload speed, the better the quality of the picture when you are away from home. Not much you can do here other than try changing locations. Or, if you're in a hotel, you might try waiting until the non-peak Internet traffic times early in the morning and late at night.

If you are connected to a VPN, all of your network traffic is redirected through that VPN connection, potentially causing slowdowns. Some VPN client software allows you to limit the network traffic that goes through the VPN server; you can restrict it to only the data involved when you're requesting data or services from behind your corporate firewall.

Contact your local network administrator for help doing this. Check your browser's download manager. Does the issue occur when viewing specific channels or is it across all channels? Try a different input if possible to compare the viewing performance between two types of video sources. Video performance can be affected by too many applications running in the background on the mobile device, if it's supported. Too many open application processes can slow the handset down and affect the performance of SlingPlayer.

Again, if your phone's data connection or capacity is poor, none of these changes will likely have much of an impact. For your newer-model Slingbox to function properly with your home network, your router should have a feature called UPnP activated. Enable that feature on your home router, and then reboot both your Slingbox and your router.

Try the setup process again. If the video quality is poor and the SQ standard quality button is grayed out, you can fix it by manually setting up your home network for a TCP connection to your Slingbox using a technique called Port Forwarding. Just click the Setup on Slingbox. If the automatic setup fails, follow the instructions for manually setting up your home network to support the Slingbox.
